2025 WASSCE Review: Ondo Ministry of Education Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Examination Malpractice

The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity and transparency in the conduct of public examinations, pledging to sustain a zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractice.

The reaffirmation came during the 2025 WAEC State Committee review meeting held in Akure, where the Ministry, in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and other stakeholders, reviewed the conduct of the 2024/2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and outlined strategies for the coming year.

In a statement issued by Bisi Lawani, Press Officer at the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, emphasized that maintaining a credible and malpractice-free examination process is essential for producing responsible and competent citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

“The Ministry believes that credibility in examinations is non-negotiable. We will intensify our monitoring activities to ensure Ondo State remains free of malpractice. Any school or student caught compromising the system will face strict sanctions,” Prof. Ajibefun stated.

He noted that the Ministry’s Ethics Committee remains active and proactive in enforcing discipline, stressing that deterrent measures are crucial to preserving the integrity of the education system.

Prof. Ajibefun further highlighted that revitalizing the education sector remains a major priority of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration — a reflection of its commitment to restoring Ondo State’s reputation for academic excellence.

As part of these efforts, the state government has paid the 2024/2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for all students in public secondary schools — a move described as a bold step toward ensuring equitable access to quality education.

“The state government will continue to support WAEC and our schools through effective supervision, monitoring, and provision of logistics. Both public and private schools must strictly adhere to WAEC’s examination ethics and regulations,” he added.

Representing WAEC’s national office in Lagos, Mr. Tunde Ojo commended the Ondo State government for its consistent collaboration, which he said has significantly contributed to the success of the 2024/2025 WASSCE in the state. He also praised Ministry officials and teachers who served as supervisors across the 18 local government areas.

Ojo explained that the annual review meeting provides a vital platform for stakeholders to assess past examinations and prepare effectively for upcoming ones.

“The examination process is a joint effort between WAEC and the government. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure a credible and hitch-free examination in the coming year,” he assured.

The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by all stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, uphold ethical standards, and sustain the integrity of WAEC examinations in Ondo State.
