Why Senate Suspends Confirmation of Udeh as Minister

The Senate on Wednesday put a hold on the confirmation of Kingsley Udeh as a minister, citing the absence of a mandatory security clearance.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed the reason during plenary, emphasising that Udeh’s confirmation could not proceed until the chamber received the required security report.

“The confirmation of the minister-nominee would have been next on the list, but we need security clearance,” Akpabio informed the Senate.

This development follows a request from President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, urging the Senate to confirm Udeh as a minister.

Akpabio also read a letter to the Senate highlighting that Udeh, who hails from Enugu State, had been nominated for ministerial appointment.

Until the necessary security vetting is completed, the Senate has deferred action on his confirmation.
