Nigeria’s headline inflation fell to 18.02 per cent in September 2025, down from 20.12 per cent in August, marking the sixth consecutive decline in the year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported in its latest Consumer Price Index and Inflation Data released on Tuesday.
According to the NBS, inflation dropped by 0.72 per cent on a month-on-month basis, while food inflation recorded a negative 1.57 per cent for the same period.
“In September 2025, the headline inflation rate eased to 18.02 per cent compared to 20.12 per cent in August. The month-on-month headline inflation stood at 0.72 per cent, and food inflation was -1.57 per cent MoM,” the agency stated.
The decline comes as Bismark Rewane, Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company, projected that Nigeria’s inflation would moderate to 18 per cent by November 2025.
However, recent increases in fuel and cooking gas prices may affect future inflation trends and could raise the cost of living for Nigerians.
