The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, has emphasised that the Araromi–Lekki road project, once completed, will establish a direct link between Ondo and Lagos, unlocking new opportunities in trade, logistics, and tourism.
He made this statement in Akure while outlining the government’s multi-sectoral approach to transforming the state into a thriving economic centre under the OUR EASE Agenda.
Ajanaku highlighted that the administration’s strategy for state development hinges on deliberate investments in infrastructure, power, agriculture, tourism, and revenue generation, all aimed at fostering sustainable growth and instilling confidence in investors.
Focusing on the government’s infrastructure agenda, the Commissioner listed key road projects underway, such as the Ikare–Akungba dualisation, Akure–Idanre dualisation, Okitipupa–Igbokoda road, the flyover bridge on Akure–Ilesa expressway, and various internal road rehabilitations.
He noted, “When these infrastructure projects are completed, Ondo will naturally attract industries, logistics companies, and investors seeking a business-friendly location between the South-West and South-South corridors.”
He further highlighted the forthcoming Port Ondo project, describing it as a “game changer” expected to open new avenues for maritime trade, logistics, and industrial development in the state.
In the energy sector, Ajanaku commended the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for its efforts in improving electricity access and reliability, noting that these advancements have enhanced transparency and strengthened investor confidence.
According to him, these improvements have also spurred productivity and expansion for numerous small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), generating renewed business optimism across Ondo State.
The Commissioner also praised the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) for its dedication in increasing the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He noted that ODIRS has boosted revenue collection through digital systems, taxpayer education, and transparent operations, enabling the government to fund vital infrastructure and social development projects.
Turning to agriculture, Ajanaku reiterated that Ondo State remains Nigeria’s leading cocoa producer and the second largest in West Africa.
He explained that the administration is enhancing value addition and promoting agribusiness investments to create jobs and raise export revenue.
On tourism, the Commissioner announced that the state has approved the revival of the annual MARE Mountain Climbing Festival in Idanre, set for December.
He emphasised that the festival is designed to invigorate the local economy and attract private-sector investment through strategic public-private partnerships.
