Former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has yet to react publicly to his suspension by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Tuesday, the Ogun APC announced the suspension of Daniel alongside another party member, Kunle Folarin, over alleged anti-party activities.
The party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, disclosed the decision in a statement issued after the State Working Committee meeting presided over by the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.
Efforts to obtain Daniel’s response have so far been unsuccessful. Calls and messages to his media aide, Steve Oliyide, went unanswered as of Wednesday. Similarly, Governor Dapo Abiodun, who leads the party in the state, has also remained silent on the matter.
Daniel’s suspension comes against the backdrop of the Abiodun administration’s recent move to demolish the ex-governor’s residence and hotels—an action Daniel’s camp has described as politically motivated vendetta. They allege that Abiodun, who is expected to complete his second term in 2027, is positioning himself for the Ogun East senatorial seat currently occupied by Daniel.
According to the party, disciplinary committees in Ward 4 and Ward 6, both in Sagamu Local Government Area, investigated the allegations against Daniel and Folarin.
The statement explained:
“Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government, set up a disciplinary committee on the alleged misconduct bordering on anti-party activities committed by Senator Gbenga Daniel. Similarly, Ward 6 set up a disciplinary committee on allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities allegedly committed by Hon. Kunle Folarin.
“They were invited in writing to defend themselves but failed to respond, failed to provide a written defense, and failed to attend the disciplinary meetings.
“In addition, the committees received notice that the members under investigation had been harassing party members and warning them against cooperating. Upon due consideration, the committees suspended the members indefinitely, pending further investigation and the outcome of inquiry.”
